Mike Tyson in his early days.

Mike Tyson retired from boxing in 2005 with a 50-6-2 record and 44 knockouts. He became the youngest heavyweight champion ever at the age of 20 after a TKO knockout in the second round against Trevor Berbick.

Tyson’s mentor Cus D’Amato died in November of 1985, 9 months after Tyson went pro. Nevertheless, Tyson won his first 19 fights by knockout and 12 of them were in the first round!!

In 1997, Iron Mike became the first boxer to hold the WBA, WBC, and IBF titles at the same time.

Mike Tyson never fully recovered after losing the unified boxing title to James “Buster” Douglas in 1990. He went on to make big money from his fights with Evander Holyfield. But all that money was wasted after he stopped boxing because of an addiction to drugs, partying, and women.

He has since become a respected, mature man and now makes money from movies, appearances, and speeches. There is no doubt he deserves to be in the Hall of Fame.

Sylvester Stallone never fought a boxing match in his life. But he has contributed to the sport. The original Rocky is a classic film that was nominated for 10 academy awards and won Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Film Editing. Yes…the movie is that good.

He also wrote 5 more movies for the Rocky character and title. Stallone also created, with Sugar Ray Leonard, the Contender show. The critically-acclaimed show produced many boxers who contend for titles today. Stallone was awarded the “Lifetime Cinematic Achievement in Boxing” by the Boxing Writers Association of America in 2006.
