Sports Illustrated – Mike Singletary was fired by the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday night after two disappointing seasons, including a 5-10 showing this year for a franchise expected to win the NFC West.

The team made the announcement late Sunday upon returning to the Bay Area, several hours after San Francisco was eliminated from playoff contention with a 25-27 loss at St. Louis. Defensive line coach Jim Tomsula was promoted to interim coach and will run the team in next Sunday’s season finale at home against Arizona:  Continue Reading…

San Fransisco 49ers team president and CEO Jed York  fired head coach Mike Singletary today amid speculation that he may allow him to coach the 49er’s last game of the season.

Defensive line coach Jim Tomsula will serve as the interim coach for the San Fransisco 49ers.

Mike Singletary was 18-22 overall in a little over 2 seasons. He went 8-8 last year and finished 5-10 this year. He said “You know what, I’ll put it this way: a personal failure. I’m the head coach of this team and obviously wanted us to do better, felt that we could do better.”

Owner John York says he plans to hire a GM before he hires a new head coach.

Mike Singletary never looked right as the head coach of the 49ers. He always came off as a strict and unhappy coach.

Mike Singletary has finally been fired

This season was just too much. The St. Louis Rams are leading the NFC West division with a measly 7-8 record. With the talent the 49ers have, winning the division should have been like a walk in the park.

Professional athletes want to be able to relate to their coaches as man-to-man, not man-to-child.

Singletary will surely be better off taking a defensive coordinator coaching job somewhere else, or even in San Fransisco.

But one thing is for sure, Mike Singletary as head coach of the 49ers was never going to work out.

You could see that his players weren’t really responding.

Long Island Black Man’s Sentence For Murdering A White Kid Commuted By Governor David Patterson

December 24, 2010 1 comment

CBS News – New York Gov. David Paterson commuted the sentence Thursday of a black man imprisoned for the racially charged shooting death of a white teenager on Long Island, a decision in the final days of his administration that infuriated the lawyer who prosecuted the case.

Paterson said the five months John Harris White has served was enough time for the emotion-fueled 2006 shooting death of Daniel Cicciaro, 17. Paterson said everybody connected with the case had suffered enough, and White was released Thursday. Continue Reading…

John Harris White and Governor David Patterson

John Harris White has been released from prison after serving 6 months for manslaughter & possession of an illegal weapon convictions. New York Governor David Patterson ‘commuted’ his sentence today.

John Harris White was set to be in prison for 2-4 years for shooting 17-year old Daniel Cicciaro in an attempt to protect his son, Aaron White.

Aaron had just left a party after being asked to leave for ‘posting online threats’ about a girl in attendance (found to be not true).

A ‘lynch mob’ or a large group of racist kids then showed up at the White’s house in the predominantly white Long Island neighborhood.

Daniel Cicciaro was driving with an alcohol level above the legal limit and was 3 inches away from the gun when he was shot.

His father, Daniel Sr. screamed “Let’s see what happens when Aaron White gets shot.” And that was when he thought John Harris White would serve 4 years in prison.

It was a tough decision and both sides have much to be sad and angry about.

Charlotte Bobcats Head Coach Larry Brown Fired By Team Owner Michael Jordan

December 22, 2010 3 comments

SportsIllustrated After a miserable start to the season in which he took shots at his players and himself, Larry Brown is out as coach of the Charlotte Bobcats in another messy exit in his well-traveled career.

Owner Michael Jordan announced the move in a release by the team on Wednesday, a day after the Bobcats were outscored 31-12 in the fourth quarter in their fourth straight loss. Continue Reading…

Charlotte Bobcats head coach Larry Brown has been fired or ‘asked to step down’, yet again. Brown has been fired from the Detroit Pistons, New York Knicks, and now the Charlotte Bobcats.

Michael Jordan 'asked' Larry Brown to step down as head coach.

Team owner Michael Jordan said “This was a difficult decision for both of us, but one that needed to be made.”

The Bobcats 9-19 record and one-sided losses were just too much for the NBA legend.

Larry Brown had lead the team to its first playoff appearance last season but the organization decided to trade away centerpieces Raymond Felton and Tyson Chandler.

That was obviously a bad decision.

The coach was not proud of his team’s performance this season saying “I just feel bad if anybody who really enjoys the game would watch our team play. They’d look at me and say, ‘That coach is not doing his job.’ That’s the thing I feel most bad about.”

Like Bill Parcells once said “They want you to cook the dinner; at least they ought to let you shop for some of the groceries.”

Larry Brown is the only coach ever to win a NCAA championship (Kansas 1988) and a NBA championship (Detroit Piston 2004).

He is also the only coach to lead as many as eight NBA teams to the playoffs and is a NBA Hall of Famer.
